NOXIOUS WEEDS.
APPLICATION TO HAVE GOATSRUE INCLUDED. 4t last night's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Chry- . , stall mentioned that goatsrue was . spreading on the lands'adjacent to the Manawatu River, and if not ' , checked soon.would later on be wery * expensive to get rid of. Where stop banks were erected this weed had not so far got beyond the banks, but on the low-lying land along the river where there were no stop banks it had spread greatly. Other members also referred to the menace that goatsrue was to the settlers near the river, and considered it should be declared a noxious weed by the Department. In the discussion it was mentioned that (he New Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association had asked the Kairanga and Manawatu Counties to declare it a noxious weed, and the Kairanga County Council had done so, but the Manawatu County had not taken any steps in the matter.' It was decided to write to the Ag- a. ricultural Department and the Manawatu County Council, pointing out the menace that goatsrue was in this district, and requesting that same be declared a noxious weed.
