COACHING ACCIDENT.

Greymouth, June 17. An accident occurred at the Otira Gorge to-day, at 3 p.m., to one of the mail coaches, which was on the return trip from the Arthur’s Pass. When about three miles from Otira, at a place known as Candy’s Hut, or Steep Hill, one horse is understood to have fallen, precipitating the vehicle against the embankment, and scattering the passengers in all directions. Mr Wells (Woodstock, Westland), whose back was severely hurt, and Mr King (Invercargill), who received an injury to his shoulder-blade, and three others sustained minor injuries. Two horses out of the five were lost. The mails Avere on this coach, but Avere undamaged.
