OTAK! LICENSING BENCH.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above was held at Otaki yesterday. Present: Messrs E. Page, B.M, (chairman), H. Freeman, Ben Ling, Jas. McLeavey, W. Thompsitt and J. O’Connor. HEALTH OFFICER’S REPORT. The following is the report on the hotels in this part of the district ; Post Office Hotel—Recommendation: That hot and cold water he laid on to bar over a sink connected to the house drainage. 'Manawatu Hotel. — Satisfactory.

Whyte’s Hotel—A temporary bar in use, the hotel having been burnt down over a year ago. Family Hotel. —Recommendation: A better water supply than from river to be provided; new tanks to be provided; hot and cold water to. be laid on over a properly trapped sink.

Manawatu Club Hotel (Shannon). —Recommendations: Hot and cold water to he supplied in the bar, to be laid over sink installed with waste pipe.

Albion Hotel (Shannon). —Satisfactory. The police reports on all the hotels iti (he district were satisfactory.

. The application fit the licensee of the Post Office Hotel was hold over for three months, to enable licensee to effect minor improvements. The police stifled the water supply at* the Family Hotel was unsatisfactory, the water being brackish. The licensee said the water for cooking and such purposes was rain water, but for baths the water was pumped from the river. He was in favour of a hot water system in the bar. Application adjourned for three months to enable, mailers to bo attended to. In connection with 'Whyte's Hotel, it was reported the hotel had not yet been re-built. Mr Freeman stated the recent poll was the means of holding the matter up, but the plans had now been drawn up. The police sa id not even a brick had been put down since the poll. They took exception to the delay. Application adjourned for three months. The Bench said the plans were satisfactory, and would bo. approved if tire escapes wen; made ■•atisfaetorv.

Mr Freeman was granted a temporary permit for three months.

The licensee of the Alanawalu Hotel was granted a renewal. Helative to fire escapes, the commit! ec decided they should he efficient at all hotels, the work to be done to the .satisfaction of the senior officer of the police. Hopes were considered unsafe-factory, and everything possible, should be done to provide means of exit for elderly persons.
