BOWLING.
ANNUAL MEETING OF MANAWATU CENTRE. The annual meeting of the' Mann watu Bowling Centre was held on Thursday afternoon, Mr J. A. Nash presiding. The annual report was read as follows: —
Membership. —We have ten clubs affiliated at present, this being an increase on last year owing to the formation and inclusion of the Manawatn Bowling Club.
Finance. —The credit balance at the beginning of the year was £9 17s 4d, and the amount in hand as per balance-sheet is £49 10s fid. New Year’s Day Tourney. —Tho New Year tournament, although the entries were not very large, was a very enjoyable one, and tho profit (amounting to £9 Ss lOd) was duly paid over to the Sick and 'Wounded Fund of the Manawatu Patriotic Society. The tourney was won by Messrs Jones, Hankins, Livingstone and Lanrenson (skip), of the Maim watu Club.
Easter Tourney. —This was the largest yet held in Palmerston North, and the visitors seemed well satisfied with (he arrangements* Tho winning team, Messrs Jones, Hankins, Livingstone and Laurenson (skip) are deserving of congratulations, this being the Manawatu Bowling .Club’s first year. A social was held at the Soldiers’ Club, and a very enjoyable evening spent. The Centre’s funds benefited to the extent of £34 17s 3d from the tourney. Your committee suggest that the trophies for next Easter lie increased in value. Our host (hanks are due to Messrs Jones and Baton for their valuable assistance during the tournament.
Champion of Champions. —The first year .of the champion of champions created a great deal of interest with the clubs represent oak Mr F. Lanrenson (Manawatu) Avon the singles, Messrs Fargher and Roach (Shannon) the doubles, and Messrs Jolly, Seifert, N. 11. Nash and J. A. Nash the rinks. We suggest that this competition be liehlyarly during (he coming season, and that arrangements be made for the champions of Wanganui, Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Wellington and Manawatu to meet.
Testing of Boavls. —The commitlee endeavoured to have all-Ijoavls tested in the Centre during the season, but: it Avas not possible to have same carried out. Arrangements have definitely been made Avith one of the testers to visit several of the toAvns in our centre early next sga-
The report and balance-sheet were adopted, delegates expressing pleasure at the sound financial position of the Cent re. It avus decided to write to fhe donors of the Dixon nnd Manson and Barr cups, asking them to agree to have alt matches for the caps played under the jurisdiction of the Centre. The elect ion of officers resulted: Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president; "Messrs T. Hewnt; (Pahiafua) am] Roach (Shannon), A’ice-pre.sidenls; Mr J. Simmons, secretary and treasurer.
The secretary was granted a bonus in consideration of his work fon the Centre, appreciation also being expressed of his efforts on behalf of the Centre.
The secretary was appointed to represent the Centro at a meeting of the Dominion Bowling Council, at Auckland.
Mr J. A. Nash was appointed delegate for Dannevirke, and Mr N. 11. Nash for Pallia I na.
