A DIVORCE PETITION.

£-1,000 DAMAGES CLAIMED. Wellington, June 4. A divorce case involving a claim for damages amounting to £-1,000, is being heard in the Supreme Court. The petitioner is Albert Ernest Orlando Wellington Brooks, a building contractor, of Te Ore Ore, Masterion, the respondent being Cecilia Mary Myrtle Brooks, and the co-respondent Donald McKenzie, of Hill End, Bideford, Masterton, the grounds of the petition being alleged adultery. The parties were married in 1901, in Taranaki, and there have been four children to the union. Between October, 1915, and December, 1918, it is alleged the respondent has been guilty of misconduct with McKenzie at various places, including his farm. The petitioner, as contractor, was frequently away from home, and the misconduct, said counsel, took place in his absence. The respondent claimed two more children than were mentioned in the petition, but it was contended that the two were* not children of the petitioner. The respondent had admitted adultery’. McKenzie was a wealthy man, worth £30,000 or £40,000, and to respondent he gave now a £lO note and now a £5 note, gifts of which respondent used to boast.
