CROQUET.

On Tuesday afternoon a party of croquet players from Levin visited Foxton, and a challenge match for the Gold Stars, at present held by the local players, was played. The challengers were Miss Ahitlaker and Mrs Kirk, and the holders Mesdames Evans and Porrcnu. A start with the game was made shortly aider half-past one, but at half-past five it was still unfinished, and 100 dark for the players to continue. At this lime Levin was lead-

jug Foxtou by two point.-., and had six points to make to complete the game. Although the conditions of all challenge trophies provide that all games are to bo played on the holders’ lawn, and in the case di unfinished games the trophies remain in the possession of the holders, the Foxtou phi vers agreed to waive these conditions and to finish the game on the Levin lawn the following day. A plan showing the positions of the balls, etc., was made, and the game was continued on the Levin lawn yesterday afternoon. The Foxtou players were in good form, and quickly overhauled their opponents, and eventually won ft by a margin of four points. W A match for the Horn blow badges was played at Levin yesterday afternoon, the challengers being Mesdames Evans and Pcrreau, and the holders Mesdames Hall and Lancaster. The result of the game was a win for the holders by I‘2 points.

A start was made with the topdressing of the local croquet lawn, yesterday afternoon, and very good progress was made, about ■ threeparts being completed, and it is hoped to Jinish the balance this afternoon.

The ladies are reminded of the general meeting of members (bowling and croquet) to he held in the Town Hall cloakroom (upstairs) to-night, at 7.30 o’clock.
