ALL SAINTS’ PARISHIONERS’ MEETING.
(Concluded from page 1.) ings when I come to deal with this subject... My thankfulness is overwhelming. . . . For this year wc have 122 scholars, with an average attendance of 70, with 8 teachers. This should give us all cause for great thankfulness
“Ladies’ Guild. —Once more we must express our appreciation of the work done by the ladies, under the presidency of Mrs A. S. Easton. They are indeed our main stay, and they spare no effort , and give a good deal of time, to raising the wherewithal to maintain our church. On your behalf I extend to them our heartiest thanks. During the past year they raised the sum of £l2B ;ißs -Id by special efforts, against £2OO 18s Id last year. They have in hand £7O Ids .Id, part of which will pay for the shed which has been built at the vicarage. “Continuation. — On December 13th we had a visit (which will be long remembered by the magniticent address he gave) from the Bishop of the Diocese, who administered t he rite of Confirmation to 18 candidates, 10 girls and 8 boys. “Vestry.—l extend to both (he churchwardens and all the members of (be vestry my thanks for their hearty co-operation during the past twelve months. We have worked together very happily. No matter of great importance came before us, so Ihe willingness for service was not greatly taxed. During the year wc lost three of our members, two by removal and one by death. Mr Preston has left us, and is residing in Christchurch. He joined the vestry the first year he came to Poxtou, and thus helped us for three years. Fur one year he was my churchwarden. Mr Turkiugtou. who was a member of the vestry for two years, has been transferred lo Palmerston North. Both gentlemen did good work for us, and we miss them very much. To both of them we have extended our thanks, and wished (hem .success in their uen homes. The other was the death of Mr S. B. Collins, who fell a victim (u the epidemic in November last. For many years be was a member of the vestry, and gave much of his time and talents, for he was a gifted musician and singer, to the service of the church. We have forwarded to his sisters an expression of regret and sympathy with them in their sorrow.
“The Choir. —1 desire lo convoy my sincere thanks to Mr Betty and the choir for their services during (lie past year. Though our choir is not great in number, our services are well rendered, and the choir members are always ready to help with anything that is organised in connection with the church. One change has been made during the year,"and that is the bringing back into the choir of a number of boys. We are glad lo >ee them there, both for their presence and the help they give to the singing. “Boys' Club.—Some months ago 1 started a social club for boys in the schoolroom. W e meet once a week, and spend a pleasant two hours together. The lads seem happy to come and thoroughly enjoy themselves. So far games have been our main amusement, bul with assistance the idea is capable of extension. We have had as many as 17 lads present at once. “C.E.M.S. —Some two years ago our branch of the C.E.M.S. languished and died. 1 think the lime has arrived when an effort should be made, either to revive that movement or to begin something similar. A meeting, fortnightly or monthly, for social and spiritual welfare should lie helpful to many of us. “Manawatu .Herald—We must, once more place on record our appreciation of the kindness of the owners 01. the 'Manawatu Herald in publishing our church services, and also for allowing ns in other ways to make use of t heir paper’. “Parish statistics. —Communions 686 (740); weddings, 2 (1); burials, 14 (8); baptisms, 25 (23). “To all —churchwardens, members of (he.vestry, Ladies’ Guild, choir, Sunday school teachers who have helped to maintain the church work, 1 tender my sinceer thanks, and I hope that this year may witness a steady building up of God’s Kingdom in our parish, and the complete restoration of peace and goodwill to the nations.”
