THE ROUND BUSH.
At Monday night meeting a letter was rend from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce in connection with the proposal to acquire the Round Bush as a scenic reserve, and suggesting that a conference of delegates from the local bodies interested be held to discuss the proposal and endeavour to arrive at a solution of the difficulty. The Mayor moved, and Cr. Thompson seconded, that the resolution of the Chamber of Commerce re proposed conference of local bodies to discuss the question of the acquisition of the Round Bush as a scenic reserve be endorsed, and that this Council suggests that three delegates be appointed to represent each body, and that the date of the conference be left to theFoxton Harbour Board.
. 't’iie Mayor said it was a great pity that they had not so far been able to arrive at some finality in this matter. The Government had promised to contribute £425 towards the cost of acquisition, and a valuation of the properly had been made. The Harbour Board, however, refused to accept this valuation, and the altitude the Board had taken'up was, in the opinion of the speaker, most unreasonable. The Government had treated the Harbour Board very generously indeed by selling them the wharf at a price which really represented a gift of £26,000. The Board could very well let us have the bush, concluded (he Mayor. Cr. Thompson said he was glad to sec the question again .opened up. If the busk could be acquired it would be a very good thing.
Cr. Henderson said ho understood the oilier local bodies approached refused to contribute anything* towards the cost of acquisition. The motion was carried.
