FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report to be submitted at the annual general meeting of the Foxton Patriotic Society, to be held next Thursday evening:— _ “Your Committee ]ias much pleasure in presenting the annual report for the twelve,months just ended, in a spirit of thankfulness that the great war through which our activities have been occasioned has ended in complete victory to the Allies, and we now await the deliberations of the Peace Conference from which the Allies hope to receive a fit recompense to all their sacrifices, and a scheme of International Government that will put an end to war.

“Finance: The year started with funds in hand of £3,218 11s fid, and ended with £3,673 Is fid, of which £1,027 fis lOd is on deposit at the Post Office, £2,500 on fixed deposit at Bank of New Zealand, while the current account at the Bank stands at £145 11s lid.

“Patriotic Shop: The amount raised at the shop was £661 4s Id, being nearly as much as last year, with four months’ less work. £251 14s 2d was raised fos special purposes, and £4ofi fis lid for the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, the latter being raised on 25 Saturdays, the average takings being £l6 7s 7d.

During the j r ear the shop was enlarged, at a cost of £l4 5s Od, for Avhich purpose £ls 8s 10d was raised specially by the ladies. To the ladies whose consistent and loyal work this good result is due the thanks of the Society are heartily given. It is now for the Society to decide what to do with the shop.

“Donations: The donations amount to £350, and to those gentlemen who have so consistently subscribed we extend our hearty thanks. “Assistance to Returned Soldiers; The amount granted to Returned Soldiers during the year was £3OO 13s 3d, made up of mufti allowances to 37 soldiers £llO 12s Od, grants to incapacitated soldiers £l3O Is 3d, and loans £OO.

“Thanks; Your Committee wish to thank the -“Manawatu Herald” for reporting meetings and inserting subscription lists, Messrs And reson, Smith, Osborne, Murphy and Wilson for free cartage Am shop goods, Mr W. R. Bullard for assistance at Patriotic Shop, and Mr E. Healey for kindly acting as receiver for patriotic monies.” •

The balance-sheet shows that (he year commenced with a credit balance of £3,238 1.3 s !)d, and the reccipls were as follows: —Putried ic Shop £(>(sl 4s Id; donations, F. S, Easton £IOO, Foxton Racing Club £IOO (Copper Trail), Stevens, Easton and Austin £OO, Foxton Cordage Co., £2O, Jas. Ross £5, R. H. Xininm £5; refunds, £lB 0s Od; Moutoa Committee, £52 -Is Od; interest, £7l 10s 0d; collected for enlarging shop, £ls 8s lOd; members’ subscriptions, 14s. Special efforts raised (he following: Red Triangle £289 Is Od, Red Jersey £258 8s od, Anzac Day Collection £5, Mr Pirnid’s lecture £2 14s 9d, Copper Trail 5s sd, St. Dun stairs Home 10s 2d, making a grand total, including amount in hand at the beginning of the year, of £4,044 8s 3d. The expenditure was as follows; Y.M.C.A. Red Triangle £2BB 14s 3d, Salvation Army Red Jersey £258 8s Od, Copper Trail £IOO 5s sd, French Orphans £O3 Os 2d, Christmas parcels fund £4O 14s od, St. Dunsttin’s Home £3l Os 2d, Italian Red Cross £2l 10s od, Regimental funds £22, Soldiers’ Jnslitnte, Rotorua, £2, mufti allowance (returned soldhjrs/ £llO 12s Od, grants (returned soldiers) £l3O Is 3d, loans (returned soldiers) £OO, printing and advertising £0 11s Od, enlarging shop £l4 5s Od, presents to men going into camp £0 4s Od, miscellaneous £4.14s Od, total £.1,271 0s od, leaving a credit 'balance of £3,073 Is 9d.

The annual general meeting of the Society will be held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday next, at 8 p.m., when the annual report and balance-sheet will be presented, and officers for the year, elected. The had arranged to convert the Patriotic Shop into a returned soldiers’ reading room, but as the Minister of Internal Affairs Ims ruled that no monies held by Patriotic Societies may be used to provide clubs, etc., the project has been deferred.
