A N APRECIATION.

The Mayor, Mr -lolm Chryslall, has received (he following letter of thanks from (he Mon. (I. W. Russell, Minister for Public Health: —

“I desire to express the thanks of (he Government to your self, llm governing bodies, and the people of your city, town, and district; for tho assistance rendered during the recent world-wide epidemic. “The Government recognises that the self-saeritiee and heroism of the people, in co-operalioir with the hospital authorities, (lie Army Medical Service, the medical profession., the nurses, the voluntary workers, and the Public Health Department, combated the disease with vigouu and success, the result being (hut though severe the visitation was of short duration. It therefore tenders its sincere thanks to all who assisted, and gratefully recognises the unflinching courage and devotion displayed by all classes during (he sad days through which I lie Dominion, in common with other countries, passed during the passage of the epidemic over our country. The Government' also thankfully recognises the generosity of those who assisted with voluntary contributions of money and goods and in other ways for the benefit of tlie relief funds necessitated by flicepidemic.”
