VOLUNTEER NURSING RESERVE.
LOCAL ORGANISATION FORMED. At a meeting of ladies held in the “Herald” Office on Tuesday night, it was decided to form a local volunteer nursing reserve, with the object of training all willing lo join in rendering skilled aid to combat the visitation of epidemics. Mr Hornblow read the Hosptal Board’s proposal to (rain women of not less than 19 years of age in the elements of bedside nursing. This meant that those willing to act would have to enter the Palmerston Hospital for a course of training, including lectures, for a period of a fortnight. This would preclude many from taking Hie course, whereas similar (raining could be undertaken locally hy an experienced ex-matron in the person of Mrs Raine. The object of the nursing reserve is lo have a thoroughly equipped organisation in readiness to meet any future epidemic. Airs Raine was elected siiperinfendenl. The following we're elected an executive eommitlee: —Alesdames Ate. Murray and Harding, and Aliss Sewell. It was suggested that Ihe Tow n Hall be used as a hospital, with the supper-room as a food depot. Resolved Unit the bedding, etc., stored locally by (lie Hospital Board be inspected, and suitable storage for same be secured. It was decided lo provide home nursing classes for all those willing to join, and to hand in their names to Airs Raine as soon as possible.
