A DISMISSED MATRON.
MISS THURSTON’S CASE,
Christchurch, Yesterday
The Hospital Board received letters to-day from Dr. Valinlinc regarding the Board’s termination of of the contract with Miss Thurston, matron, who was given leave of absence to go to England on war service. Dr. Valinline considered that Miss Thurston would be justified in demanding an explanation of the action which was practically a summary dismissal of an officer who had rendered splendid service to (he Christchurch Hospital. The Department was entirely in sympathy with Miss Thurston, and was hound to protect the interests of those who had gone abroad on war service.
Several members of the board objected to Dr. Yalinline’s intervention, claiming that the hoard had control of staff matters. The letters were received.
