CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.

UNUSUAL CASE BEFORE COURT. ECHO OR OTAKI TRAGEDY. Wellington, Feb. 28. An unusual compensation case is proceeding at the Arbitration Court, said to be the first of the kind in New Zealand. The widow of Frank Walker, compositor at the Otaki Mail, claimed £SOO ejamages from Frank Penn, proprietor of the Mail. "While at his work, Walker met with an accident to his head, which received medical attention, and the doctor prescribed a rest. Walker, formerly a strong, cheerful man, became quite changed and irritable, and complained of giddiness. On the I bird day after the accident lie left his lied and said he was going for a walk. His body was found in the river three weeks later. The post mortem revealed that under the site of an abrasion on (he head was a (dot of blood, which the doctor said was undoubtedly due to injury and would account, for the peculiar manner of deceased. The Court is asked to infer that Walker, while menially deranged in consequence of the injury sustained at work, committed suicide, and compensation is claimed accordingly. The Court reserved its decision, and adjourned till 10 o’clock on Monday.
