LEVIN’S CHAUTAUQUA.
The following is an extract from the Tamworth Observer relative to the Chautauqua which, is to visit Levin on Monday next, March 3rd:
The usual dull monotony of the fortnight succeeding Christmas will this year in Tamworth be relieved by tlie visit of the Chautauqua, the much talked of American company of entertainers, who will open a week’s season on December 30th. The people of Tamworth who have lack of energy or money to go away to (lie seaside will have an opportunity of spending the week in a very agreeable way. The musical portion of the Chautauqua is said lo he alone worth the money, but when tho breezy talks of Dr. .Johnson and his co-lecturers are thrown in, tho public are assured of exceptionally good value for the small cost of the season ticket. The Chautauqua has bad a great reception in Queensland and on the Northern Rivers, and everywhere (here has been an enthusiastic reception for another visit next year. The Chautauqua is not a circus, nor a wild west show, not an attempt on the part of. a few high-minded enthusiasts to instill some facts into the beads of their benighted fellows. It is a .mixture of music, elocution, literature and dramas, and the whole forms one big scheme lo give people a popular form of eiilerlaimmml lhal is always amusing and instraetive.
