At a great music hall I listened to the huge audience singing “Land of Hope and Glory,’’ the words of the refrain being thrown upon the screen, says “Clubman,” in the Pall Mall Gazette. The noble beauty of Elgars great national song was never more impressive, and the sonorous pulsations of the music seemed like the beating of a nation’s heart. Tife National Anthem betokens loyalty to the King, and “Rule Britannia” but inadequately expresses (he national consciousness of the English people. “Land of Hope and Glory” seems destined to take the place of the latter as the nation’s song, and both in music and'in sentiment it is in.every way worthy of sneh a destiny.
