WIFE-MURDER CHARGE.

ACQUITTAL OF ACCUSED. Auckland, Eeh. 13. The trial of Edward Campbell, charged with murdering Ids wife by drowning her in the Wairoa river on I9(h July, was concluded to-day. The accused was acquitted and discharged. Further medical evidence was heard. Dr. Frier said he considered deceased had not been drowned on ]9(h July, but on the following Sunday. Dr. Horton said he considered the body got into the water shortly after midnight on Saturday, (he following day on which the Crown alleged the crime had been committed. Accused made a stataement denying having murdered his wife. He night have told the police he had done so owing to the desire to end his life. The jury found Campbell not guilty after an hours retirement.
