RESIGNATION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN.
Mr McAfurray, after tendering liis resignation as a member of the local Slate School Committee as a protest against the Committee’s action in reference to (lie piano-pur-chase (p.testion, wrote a letter to the “Herald,” in which he called upon the Chairman to he a.'“sport” and resign. The Chairman said if Air McMurray would hand him a petition containing’ fifty signatures of householders to that effect, he would how to their decision, Air McMurray to have a free hand. The Chairman informs ns that he received the petition from Air AlcAlurray on Tuesday last, and hands in the same for publication. The Chairman stales that his resignation will he handed to the Committee at next monthly meeting’, hut prior to (his lie will address a public meeting’, whereat he will deal with the petition and the other matters in connection with school affairs. The petition was canvassed, for signatures-by Alessrs A. >l. Kellow ami T. W. Mitchell, and is as follows: — To Mr John K. Ilornhlow, Chairman Foxtou School Commit toe. We, the undersigned, being householders of the Poxlon School District, having in mind the recent action of yourself and five oilier members of your Committee in deciding to use (he funds subscribed by the publicfur the purchase of a German piano for use in the school, in preference to a British one, and also the unsportsmanlike freatinenl: accorded to the Headmaster by the Committee, do hereby call upon you to resign your position as member of the Committee in accordance with your promise, as per attached cutting: —“In reference to the above letter, Mr Ifornhiow, Chairman of the School Committee, desires us to inform
