Certain occurences at 1 lie Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting led to an enquiry by the stewards, wiio arrived at the following decision: — That in the,opinion of the stewards, Ernest Short was guilty of instructing bis jockey, Harold Young, rider of Demos, not to win (lie Shorts Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting, run on October 26(1i, 1918. The ’ stewards, therefore, disqualify Mr Short for a period of two years, under Part XXXIII. of the Rules of Racing. Mr Short appealed against tho decision, and his appeal, was heard by the District Committee on Thursday. The appeal was dismissed, and the decision of the Wellington stewards was confirmed. Mr Short forfeits his deposit. Immediately the decision of the District Committee was given, Mr Short lodged security for an appeal to the Racing Conference.
