PLUCKY RESCUE.
AT TFTAIII BAY. Wellington, Last Night. Three swimmers had a very narrow escape from drowning at Titahi Bay yesterday. They were mil; bathing, ami were making for the shore when a ])ar(ieularly strong under-current caught them. Tin.; bathers were, bein'? swept steadily out (o sea, when a taxi-driver, J. Nixon, launched a rowing boat single-handed, without rowlocks, and with one oar. After a smart piece of manoeuvrin'?, Nixon reached the swimmers and brought them safely to shore. An eye-witness highly praises Nixon's work.
