EXCURSION FARES.

Whether the Government would reduce railway fares to ordinary rates at Christmas was a question of which Mr 1L A. Wright gave notice in the House of Representatives. Mr Wright said it was desirable that people who had been laid up with influenza should bo afforded the opportunity of having a change. Mr H. W. Smith (Waimarinot asked if the Government would restore excursion fares for Christinas.

The Minister of Railways (Mr Herries) said (the restoration of excursion fares depended on .the number of men who returned to the service, so as to run excursion trains. He would look into the matter, and see what could be done; but he did not expect that much could be done by Christmas, though (hey would probably be able to do something for Easter.
