THE LIQUOR BILL
MAIN FEATURES. The Liquor Bill was introduced in the House yesterday. Provision is made in Part I. for a poll on two issues, mainly on the lines of the National Efficiency Board’s recommendation, namely:— (1) National Continuance.

Compensation includes the various interests comprised within (he meaning of the term “the Trade,”' including employees. Debentures will be the basis of payment, except in (be case of employees. In the event of Prohibition not being carried, a poll will be taken at (be next General Election on three issues:— (1) National Continuance. (2) National Prohibition without compensation. (3) State Ownership.
It is estimated that the sum of fen million pounds would he required for a State Ownership scheme.
It is understood that it the Bill (Kisses in its present form (he first) poll will be taken in April.
if Prohibition is carried at the first poll, it will come into force not later than the end of June, 1919. There is no provision for preferential voting on the second poll, and a majority of the total votes will be required to carry any proposal.
