LIQUOR AND THE EPIDEMIC.
DESPITE the fact that all liquor bars were closed yesterday by Or* der-in-Council, we regret to say that several persons were about the street more or less under the influence of liquor. In fact, one man was arrested in the Alain Street last evening for drunkenness. We do not know where the liquor' came from to supply these individuals — probably someone had a plant. After the warnings that have been issued by the authorities against in-
dulling in liquor and the stringent measures adopted by the authorities to prohibit the sale of same, it is a criminal act to witness this sort of thing and offenders should he sent to gaol without the option of a line. We have only one medical man in the district, and he is now doing the work of three skilled men to fight the scourge, and in view of this the public should do all in its power to assist him. Liquor can only be supplied on the doctor’s order, and persons otherwise obtaining same are committing a criminal offence.
