The Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1918. INSANITARY PREMISES.
THERE are several collates in the borough which the local authority would do well to condemn for human habitation until they are made sanitary. Some of them in an outbreak such as this arc not only death traps, but a menace to the whole community. Drastic steps must be taken to wipe them out. it ■is surprising, (<»<>, the number of tilthy backyards which have been discovered in the borough containing ideal breeding beds for disease germs. Surely the occupants cannot plead ignorance in this connection. .Again and again we have warned householders to clean up backyards, burn all refuse, and thoroughly disinfect outhouses, yet some have neglected to do this, and their .premises are a menace to the community. Cleanliness, fresh, air. plenty of ventilation in (he houses, are vitally essential if we are to keep down the epidemic.
