OBITUARY.
AIK. A. 11. IIINDMARSH, M.P. .Mr Alfred 11. Hindnmrsh. M.P. for Wellington Soulli, and a proinilien! figure in Labour 'circles fur some years past, died in Wellington Hospital yesterday, after a brief illness. The deeeased gentleman, who had suffered from a weak hear!, eontraeted inlluenza a few days ago, and pneumonia supervened. Deeeased was born in Adelaide about 58 years ago, and was educated at St. Patrick's College in that city. lie was a son of the late Mr d. llindmarsh, who settled in Napier in 1878, and a grandson of Kear-Admiral Sir John llindmarsh, first Governor of South Australia. For some lime afler he came lo New Zealand, Mr llindmarsh was in (he office of Messrs Gawith, Chapman. Sinclair, and White, solicitors, Dunedin, a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court at Christchurch in 18t)0. Pour years later he began lo ’'ractise his profession in Wellington, At the general election in IDII, Mr llindmarsh stood as a Labour candidate for Wellington South, and defeated Mr If. A. Wright, the present member for Wellington Suburbs. In December, Dili, he was again a candidate for the same seat, and once more he was successful, his opponent being Mr J. P. Luke, Mayor of Wellington, and the present member of Parliament for ’Wellington North. Mrs llindmarsh died some years ago. The family consists of two sons —one of whom has returned from (he front, and two daughters.
