WAR INDEMNITY.
WILL NEW ZEALAND PUT IN A CLAIM? CABINET TO CONSIDER MATTER. Will the Prime Minister, at an early date, make public- the Government’.s intention regarding the Dominion claiming war indemnities ' from the enemy Powers, and the nature of such claims, asked Mr J. P. Luke, M.P., without notice, in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Massey: I will he glad to submit the hon. members question to Cabinet. It is a matter for Cabinet to decide. But I should like to say that all the money in Germany would pot compensate New Zealand for the loss of the 15,000 soldiers who have made the supreme sacrilice in this war. (Hear, hear.) The City Council of Melbourne recently recommended the Commonwealth Government to press for compensation on behalf of Australia. I do not know what they are doing about it, or what action we can take. But, at all events, the matter will be taken into consideration.
