WAR AND WHISKY.
A VARIETY OF QUESTIONS,
A request was made to the Prime Minister at Wellington yesterday, hy the Rev, R. S. Gray, that an inquiry should be made whether a certain vessel which arrived recently carried about 50,000 cases or casks of whisky; Avhethor that cargo was broached during the passage; whether some of (he firemen, as the result of snclr broaching, became so drunk that Die ship was delayed (wo or three days at sea; whether some of (he passengers laid helped to stoke Die ship. It was known, Air Gray explained, that influenza had caused some dclav with the vessel, but it was desired lo know whether 'drunkenness had also protracted Die voyage. The speaker also asked whether soldiers, who had refused to go on guard over Die vessel's whisky, had been courtmarlialled. Another question was whether essential goods had been crowded out of ships in favour of whisky. Definite informal ion was desired in regard to the use of cargo space. The Prime Minister said that lie would facilitate Die obtaining of all available information for Parliament.
