FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

A meeting of the .Foxton Harbour Board was hold at Palmerston N. on Tuesday afternoon. Present; Messrs P. Hennessy (chairman), Rimmer, Linklatcr, Holbon, Matlieson and Nash. TREASURER’S STATEMENT. The question of insurance of the wharf was mentioned by Mr Nash, but it was jjointed out that as (he wharf has not yet been transferred (he Board could not insure il. —It was decided to ask the Railway Department to lake out a cover of £3,900 on (he wharf, the premium on which (he Board will pay. A letter was road from the Foxton Borough Council, suggesting I hat the valuation of the 42 acres of bush proposed to be set aside as a. scenic reserve, should be fixed by arbitration, the arbitrators to he one representative selected by the Lands Department, and one representative selected jointly by the Harbour Board and the Foxton Borough Council, those two to mutually agree upon an umpire to decide the question in case of any dispute. It was pointed out (hat the first suggestion was (hat one representulive each should he appointed by the Lauds Department, Borough Council, and Harbour Board. The Borough Council appointed the Mayor as its representative, but the Board had declined to agree, as they considered the arbitrators should be independent valuers not connected with any of the bodies interested, and (he present suggestion was the outcome of the Board's objection. FIREWOOD CUTTING. .Messrs Saville and Timmins aj>jjlied lor ajj extension of six months in connection with their firewood cutting contract, on account of the had weather cxjjcricnced.—lt was decided, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Linklater, that the ajqdication he referred to Mr Barber, who be asked to inspect the work, with power to extend the contract at his discretion. GENERAL. An apjjlication from Mr H. Baker to sub-divide his section at the Heads was refused, it being pointed out that it was the jjolicy of the Board to absolutely prohibit Die subdivision of sections. The Board then went into committee to discuss finance and future organisation of the Board’s business, and on resuming business the following resolution was carried: That Messrs Hennessy, Nash and Barber be a committee to consider finance and the general future management of the Board, to meet today (Thursday), at Foxton, The Secretary was instructed to advertise the sale of the new and available sections at the Heads. The upset rental of the new sections were fixed at £3 per annum.
