THE FAIR.

• THURSDAY NEXT. The Fair to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday next, in aid of the local State School Furnishing Fund, promises to he a success, judging by the keen interest displayed' by the public, and the gifts and cash donations received. The Fair will be formally opened by Mayors Chrystall and Nash (Palmerston N.) Prior to the opening a procession will leave the south end of the town, headed by the Borough Baud. The townspeople will observe Thursday as the Statutory half-holiday, instead of Wednesday. After the onehing speeches, the children will sing the National Anthem and a school chorus. The hahy show will follow on. The following are the stalls:

Jumble (in charge of Mosdamos Hornblow, Me Murray, Ross, Miss Speirs, and assistants), where will be displayed for sale all manner of articles, including children’s clothing, fancy goods, articles of furniture, tea, etc., and chances in several competitions.

Produce Stall (in charge of Mesdames A. S. Easton,* Signal, and Miss Borlase and assistants), will have on sale butter, cooked sucking pig, mutton, poultry, eggs, vegetables, etc.

Cake stall (Mesdames Cronqnost, Kirkley and Harper) will make a brave display of cakes, rolls, scones and other toothsome delicacies; also competitions. .

Sweets and soft drinks (.Mesdames Healey, Gower and Miss Woodroofe). This stall will occupy a central position in the hall, and will dispense ice cream, sweets, perfumes, and goodness knows what else.

The bran tub will he in charge of Mrs Ingle and Miss Ina Robinson, and assistants. Every child who invests in a dip will have the satisfaction of knowing that full value will be received for the cash invested. A splendid assortment of toys, etc., have been donated for this department, also lucky packets.

Then the tea-rooms, in charge of Mrs Fnrrie and lady teachers. Friul salads and tea will be served on the stage. * * * * Besides the stalls, there will be competitions of interest. During the evening a musical programme, will be submitted, and a novel feature will be introduced by Mi 1 Gabites, who will entertain the audience with some lightning sketches. The orchestra will also play selections. * '.5- * * The admission will lie (id for adults, and fid for children, at both afternoon and evening sessions. • • • • All goods unsold after 9.30 p.m. will be disposed of by Dutch auction. * * *! * All willing to assist are invited to attend at (he hall at (i. 30 o’clock on Thursday morning, to erect stalls, etc.

Surprise packets will be sold by the bran tub department, at Is each. Each packet contains a prize. Some of the prizes are lUs notes, a pair of ducks, etc.

Mrs Mash will judge the sugar bag competitions. The judging will take pace at 3 o'clock sharp.

The jumble stall competitions include birthday ca.ke as a prize, for the correct or nearest guess to the total takings. To every purchaser of 5s worth of goods a chance is given to win Iho bonus prize. » » * «
