SALVATION ARMY.

SELF DENIAL WEEK

The Salvation Army Corps throughout the Dominion will during the present month observe their annual week of prayer and self-denial. This is the great effort of this organisation, and has been observed for many years. Its successful operations in the Homeland needs no comment further than to say the beneficial influence of its work has been felt in all parts of New Zealand.

In addition to this, the success attending the efforts of the Army in foreign lands is truly marvellous. Nearly three thousand missionaries are at work in India, while a great staff of workers are prosecuting the Army’s work with equal success in Japan, Java, Korea, South Africa, and other heathen lands. The latest development in this very commendable branch of the Army’s activities is the opening up of its work' in China.

The Salvation Army is an army of peace that was organised to bring about peace in the hearts and lives of men and women through the salvation of Jesus Christ. It is also an Army that has rendered good service during (he war, and it can truly be said that no organisation in Hie British Empire, in proportion to membership, has given to the service of King and country in greater numbers than lias the Salvation Army. Many thousands of Salvationists arc on active service.

The groat war is demanding a sacrifice of each member of (be community, and the Salvationists themselves practice acts of personal self-denial in order to he in a position to contribute more liber* ally to their Self-denial Fund. We commend Ibis work to our readers.
