BOWLING.

The Shannon and Terrace End bowling greens will be officially opened on Wednesday afternoon next, and invitations have been extended to members of the Foxton Club to be present. All local members who desire to attend either opening are requested to put their names on the board provided at the green for the purpose, so that all the necessary arrangements can bo made.

MEETING OF CENTRE,

The annual meeting of the Manawatu Bowling Centre was held on Thursday afternoon, Mr J. A. Nash (president) was in the chair, and the delegates present were: Messrs F. Mowlem (Palmerston North Club), C. F, Spooner (Manawatu Bowling and Tennis Club), A. M. Tapp, H. Fletcher (Terrace' End Chib), Wardrop (Woodvillc), C. Pickering (Levin), N. H. Nash (Pabiataa), and J. Simmons (secretary). Several apologies for nouattendanee were also received.

In answer to the request from the Dominion Bowling Association, asking fur the assistance of the local centre in raising £I,OOO for patriotic purposes, it was decided to reply that as this centre has already held three tournaments for patriotic purposes and has raised a considerable amount of money fhereby, and as the coming Easier and New Year tournaments are to be held for the same purposes, this should fall in with Ihe wishes of (he Association.

The Secretary reported (hat the annual tournament, held on Ist, 2nd and 3rd January, resulted in a profit of £7 (is (id, which was duly handed to the Patriotic Society. The Easter tourney, which was also held for patriotic purposes, resulted *in the large entry of fit) rinks, equalling £IOO in fees. The credit balance in hand for the venr amounted to £1) 17s 4d.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr Wardrop staled that his club had received a challenge from a club that tiad not yet officially opened its green for the season. He asked whether, under these circumstances a challenge could he issued. The chairman stated that a Hub could not, under the rules, issue a challenge before its own greens were open. On his motion, it was resolved to forward the following resolution to Hubs in the Centre; ■‘That, no Huh be allowed to issue a challenge until its own green lias been officially opened.”

Air Mowlem stated that Foxton bad requested that a gala day lie held there this season, if the Centro could arrange for one. The chairman stated that arrangements might bo made to bold gala days at Foxton, Woodville, and Shannon.

After discussing the question, it was decided that the Chairman he given authority to arrange for a .gala day at Shannon, the question of the date to be left in bis and the Secretary’s bands.

The following officers were Heeled; President, Mr J, A. Nash (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Dr. C. L. Aland! (Foxton), and Air Wardrop (Woodville); secretary and treasurer, Air J. 11. Simmons.
