OBITUARY.

MISS LILY EDWARDS, It is with feeling;.'! of sincere regret that we chronicle the death of Miss Lily Edwards, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo. Edwards, of Lady's Mile, old and esteemed residents of Eoxlon, which took place at the district hospital at Palmerston last night. Some weeks ago the deceased young lady was taken suddenly ill, the symptoms pointing to cerehro-spinal meningitis, and she was conveyed to the hospital. Further diagnosis proved that she had contracted the dread malady, to which she dually succumbed. Deceased, by her happy disposition, was a general favourite with all. and the news of her passing cast quite a gloom over the town. For several years, and up lo the time of her illness, she occupied an important position on the staff of Messrs Stiles and Malhoson. She entered heartily into the social life of the town, and was one of (he original members of the Girls’ Guild, and took a keen interest in patriotic work. Deceased was also a member of the local Tennis Club. The sympathy of (he townspeople will go out to the bereaved parents and family in the Joss they have sustained. Three of the late Miss Edwards’ brothers are on active service. The funeral will lake place tomorrow, leaving All (Saints’ Church, FoaM on, at - p.m., for the local cemetery.
