BOWLING.

The official opening of the local bowling green will take, plac'e tomorrow week, at 2 o’clock. The green is looking pariicularly well at present, and should be in real tiptop order for opening day. The main requirement now is continuous rolling, and the assistance of members in this connection is required. There will be a “working bee” on the ground to-morrow afternoon, and all members able to do so are requested to put in an appearance.

The Shannon green is to be opened on October 9tb, Feilding on October 12th, and Palmerston North October 23rd.

During a match between New South Wales and Queensland teams at Brisbane recently, “Bob' 1 ' Rankin, the well-known Gympie player, who was skipping a Queensland rink, secured eight points (the possible) on the 18th end in the first game. This was a great performance, and has been widely discussed in Australia, especially the failure of the opposing skit) to alter the position. Rankin has held the singles championship of Australia, and a few years ago toured New Zealand with an Australian team.
