GREY ELECTION.
THE PETITION ABANDONED. Greymouth, Yesterday. Their Honours Air Justice Chapman and Mr Justice Sim delivered judgment this morning on the points referred to them in the petition against the election of Henry E. Holland for the Grey seat. In the first four cases the position is that the vole is declared valid; in the fifth case (he vote is invalid; in the sixth case the vote is invalid; in the seventh invalid; and in the eighth the answer depends on whether the voter made a mistake or wilfully made a false declaration. Mr Hannan said the petitioner did not intend pursuing the action further. The bulk of the votes challenged were covered by the issues 1 and 2, and their Honours’ decision was against petitioner. Mr Holland’s majority could be greatly reduced. There were 27 cases of plural voters. But, having failed on issues 1 and 2, petitioner had no hope of success. Their Honours grunted costs, as allowed by the Act, and left them to (he Registrar to fix.
