WELLINGTON CENTRAL.

A BYE-ELECTION will shortly be held for Wellington Central to Jill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr R. Fletcher, the late Liberal representative for the constituency. In accordance with the agreement made when the National Government was formed, the selection of a Government candidate rests with the Liberal Minister. Various names are being mentioned as “possibles” in discussions on the choice of a Liberal candidate (as the National Government’s nominee), but the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald has not made an official announcement, hut the choice may fall upon Mr F. W. Manton, a well-known Wellington commercial man. The Labour Parly’s nominee may be either Mr P. Read or Mr P. Fraser. The liquor question will doubtless figure prominently in the election.
