Manawatu Herald TUESDAY", SEPTEM. 10, 1918. EDUCATION ENDOWMENTS.
AT last night's School Committee meeting the Chairman stated that there were one or two educational endowments in Foxton. The revenue from these endowments were, he believed, collected by the Lands Department, and were probably passed over to the Education Department. It would be a great benefit to local education if the revenue from such sources was handed over to the local committee. Another source of revenue was the rent from the old school residence, which was collected by the Board. This building, some years ago, was condemned, and a new residence —a “jerry” structure —erected by the Board. Y"et the old building had been tenanted ever since, but the local Committee had been told that it was not entitled to (lie rent. The Chairman and Headmaser also referred to local school endowments in other centres, which was of considerable assistance to committees interested. It was sugegsted that information should be obtained as to whether the revenue from local educational endowments could be transferred to the local Committee for local educational purposes.
