The head teacher was also in attendance. Apologies wore received from Messrs Claris, Kellow and JVlcMurray. Correspondence was read and received from Mr Kellow, also notices of motion from same re monthly meetings, that postponement of. same shall he the want of a quorum of members; that meetings of .committees he held at seined; that a copy of all correspondence to the Wanganui Education Board making applications for repairs or additions to buildings, subsidies, etc., he handed to the district representative of the Board. The Board wrote in reply that subsidy would be paid on subscriptions to Honours Board. The Secretary was instructed to make application for subsidy on donations amounting to £5 7s. The headmaster reported as follows: —“The attendance since last monthly meeting has considerably improved, the averages fur the past four weeks, being 3(12. 382, 380, 300. The average for the quarter to date is 373, and for the year to date 370. The attendance for the three quarters has shown a gradual increase, March 307, June 370, September 373. If the attendance for the year is maintained we shall rise a sub-grade from 5c to sd. As indicated by the attendance, the lieullh of the school is improving. A few weeks’ ago one or two cases of mumps were reported, hut there does not seem to he any increase or spread of the ailment. Since las! meeting the school was visited by Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, who consulted many parents concerning the weaknesses revealed by the examination conducted by her and Nurse Reid. Slit* expressed herself as pleased with the general improvement in the teeth and physique of the children. The hoys' gate leading to Duncan Si reel has parted .from iis hinges, and requires attention. A pane of glass is also required for one of the lop windows on the wesl side 1 of the se bool. Th is was accidentally broken by the football. Since last meeting 1 arranged with Mr Admorc to replace a glass panel in St. 1. room door, broken by the door slamming during a gale. This required immediate attention, owing to the draught created. I recommend the Committee to have the asphalt tennis court tarred and sanded. The new season is on us, and the surface of the court would he much improved by a top-dressing. The necessity for an asphalt cricket pitch is felt. If (he game is played on the hare ground the playground will he worn into holes. A pitch 20 yards by 1 I yards —30 square yards of asphalt—boxed with 3in. x Tin. timber, is (he usual method of laying school pitches. I have secured a plan and design of a brass (ablet 'for the Memorial Tablet Board, and will lay the design and correspondence before the Committee for its consideration.”
The report, was received, and it was decided to efl'eet repairs. The top-dressing of the tennis court was left in Mr Marlin’s hands, who kindly offered to carry out same. The laying down of the cricket pitch was held over until the concreting work is being carried out. The action of Mr Signal in purchasing cement was endorsed. Several accounts were passed for payment, and Messrs Perreau and Signal wore appointed visitors for the month. The headmaster submitted a design be had received for the proposed honours board. . Several suggestions were made re same. Mr Perreau stated (hat with the subsidy the amount avnilable for the work would be about £3O.
