FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WORKS COMMITTER'S REPORT. The Works Committee reported at last night's Council meeting- as follows: —The Committee met on the 7th instant. Present: The Mayor and Crs Coley, Henderson and Thompson, and it was resolved to make the following recommendations: That tiie footpath on the west side of Main Street, south of the Family Hotel, he re-graded to give a good fall for storm water over the concrete kerbing, for a distance of live chains, at the present width of formation, four feet; also all holes to the end of Main Street south to he tilled up. The Main Street south where nut tarred he graded with a good crown of Belmont metal and suitable binding, in the centre of the street, not less than 24ft. in width. From the Family Hotel to Wharf Street to be re-top-dressed with fine gravel, sand and tar, and from Wharf Street lo northern end of Main Street all serious depressions to he filled up so as to present a smooth level surface. Also that the tar used on Cm above woi’k he heated before spraying. That a concrete culvert be placed in tin' drain in Purcell Street west, with 18-inch pipes, such culvert to be 24 ft. in width, and placed in the centre of the road, the drain to he fenced on both sides at each end of the culver!. That property owners in the vicinity of Purcell Street he notified to (dear noxious weeds. The Mayor said the trouble with the footpath at the south end of Main Street was because it was lower than the kerbing, and the water could not get away. It really refjiiired immediate attention. The grading and metalling «>t the south end of Main Street would he a fairly expensive job, which had not been allowed for in the estimates and would have to wait until after the end of the timamial year, until it could he taken in hand. About 180 yards of metal would he required for this work. Cr. Bryant thought the fixing up of the footpath should also stand over, as there were other places in the borough equally as badly oft. There was a good path on the opposite side of the street, and people could cross over and use 11ml. Cr Me Murray said if Cr Bryant had a look at the footpath he would not object to the work being done. He was glad fo hour the recommendation that in tuture the tar be heated, and in connection with same it would he advisable to make inquiries and see if a second-hand tar boiler could not he obtainedd. Cr Walker saidphe footpath was in a very bad state, and should be attended to as early as possible. The report avus adopted.
