CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir. —In your issue of August 29tli, you published statements with regard to the world-known film star, Mary Piekford, in which you credit her with having been a one-time resident of this country; also that her birth name was Dolly Nicholson. Your pardon for contradicting you, but had such been the case would not our Dominion Jong ago have disputed America’s right to call her “our Mary,” a term of endearment given to her by an admiring American public? In realily, Mary Pickford belongs to the great clan “’.Smith.” She first saw the light in Toronto, Canada, on April Bth, 1808, and her birthday name was Gladys, The mother having been an actress before her, she commenced her stage career at (lie early age of four, with a stock company. There she played child's parts for a number of years, sometimes along with her brother and sister, Jack and Louie Piekford. At the age of eleven Mary had her feet firmly set on the ladder of success. In 1000 she commenced her career as a “movie” artist with the old Biograph Company, the first in America to produce moving pictures. She met, acted opposite, and married her husband, Owen Moore, in 1910, and since then has become famous in her successes produced by the Famous Players Film Company. Mary Piekford now heads and produces for her own company under the brand “Artcrafl.” —I am, etc., VERITAS.
