HIGHER PAY. FOR REICHSTAG. Members of the Reichstag have \otcd themselves a salary increase from £l5O to £250 a year, but raised the fine for absence from a sitting from £1 to £1 10s. HONEY FOR OLD CLOTHES. As an extra inducement to men to hand in old clothes to the State, Berlin authorities announce that in addition lo Hie regular price allowed for suits everybody who surrenders one will receive a i-lb. jar of honey. BEREAUCRACY AND BOOTS. Protests arc made against the latest bureaueratie freak in Germany —persons attempting to secure hoots on permit-cards must henceforth produce birth-certificat-es, and (if married) their marriage lines. This regulation is enforced to prevent unauthorised persons from obtaining bouts. INVISIBLE-POl SON DETECTOR. Paris papers state that a discovery, possibly of groat military utility, has been made by M. Kohnahresl, director of the Toxicological Laboratory, enabling the presence of invisible odourless poisons to be detected.
