VALEDICTORY.
A SKA SIDE FUNCTION. A number of Bon eh residents paid a surprise visit to Mr and Mrs Grant, ill tho seaside, the other evening, to wish them good-bye, Mr Grant having disposed of his store to Mr hoove. A most enjoyable evening- was spent, games, eards and daneing being indulged in. In the card tournament Miss I, Hartley won the lady’s prize, and Miss Moore the booby prize. Mr R. Hartley won the gent’s prize, and Mr K. Symes the booby. After supper, Mr Hartley referred to the departure of Mr and Mrs Grant, which they all regretted. He referred to Mrs Grant’s efforts to popularise the seaside, and her work in connection with the Beach improvement scheme. He hoped that her work in this connection would be an inspiration to the residents. He hoped that Mr and Mrs Grant’s health would improve in Wellington, where they intended to take up their residence for a time. Mr Hartley’s remarks were followed by three ringing cheers, and the singing of “they are jolly good fellows.” Mr Grant thanked the residents for their kind expressions, and assured them that Mrs Grant’s efforts in respect to the social welfare of the residents and her efforts to improve the seaside were a labour of love. It was a pleasure to work in any good cause.. He hoped that the seaside would grow in popularity, and they would carry away pleasant recollections of their residence there.
