MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL

The Afanawatu County Council hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday last. Present: Sir James Wilson (chairman), Crs W. J. Phillips, If. 11. Hunt, W. S. Penny, W. E. Barber, M. Hammond, and J. Bayee. Correspondence was read from Sr Read, Foxton, re damage to ease of glass on Tramway. —Received. Ah’ A. G. Hiekford reported as follows: —Awahon Riding: Messrs Snisted and Danielson have completed (heir contract for supplying and delivering metal on FoxionShannon bridge, f have arranged with Afr H. Behrenl to earl and spread metal on Hie Whirokino road over the swampy portion for the sum of 16s (id per yard, and already 129 yards have been delivered on this section of the road. I have also let to Afr S. J. Snisted the earl ing of 360 yards of metal on this road between No. 2 Line and the borough boundary for the sum of 5s 3d per yard. Slone Crusher. —Owing to the Hooded stale of Hie river and wet weather, we only crushed about 606 yards of metal lasi month. Tramways. —The surfacemen have been employed on the Pukenui section'of the tram line replacing fish-plates, holts, and decayed sleepers, also packing and hiring the line, f have now three men on Hie 2S1I). track, removing decayed sleepers and straightening up the line.

The chief items of traffic were; Merchandise Kis tons, minerals GO tons, timber 42,200 square feet, metal 035 yai’ds. Fares amounted to £3 7s 3d. Mr Anderson having passed the medical examination, he has been ordered (o proceed to camp on October 9th next. The work of replacing tubes in boiler of Manawatu has been completed, nine being put in. A freight having been obtained from Messrs Allport and Co., Picton, for “C” class locomotive to Wellington, arrangements have been made, and engine will be lifted at an early date. It was resolved —

That the following alterations be made on the rate roll: E. 0. Hook to F. Watkins, R. A. McKenzie to S. L. Liggin.s, Gray Bros, to J. J. Gray, F. Woods to G. C. Coley, F. R. Simpson to A. Sutherland, A. J. Oldfield to S. E. Pearson, F. W. Whibley to E. L. Whibley, G. R. Nisbett to A. K. Speiys, R. W. Mitchell to B. de J, Yautier.

That tl\e County Overseer be appointed inspector under the by-laws and that all local police constables enforce the by-laws, especially the one regarding stock wandering or being herded on roads.
