BURGLARS AT WORK.
SUMS OF MONEY SECURED,
Ashburton, Juno 21.
Burglaries last night at the residence of Henry Stephenson, auctioneer, and at his office, resulted in £(i being stolon from the former and £39 17s 2d from the office safe. The burglar evidently waited for Mr Stephenson to retire to bed, took the keys olf the mantelpiece, and a purse containing the money. He then visited the office, two miles distant, and situated in the centre of Ashburton, opened the safe and cash-box, and secured £3!) 17s 2d. Tie left the kevs on the office table.
On Tuesday evening the premises of Dr. Hunter were entered. The burglar bored out the lock of a drawer where cash was usually kept, but “drew a blank.”
