GEMMELL’S CROSSING FATALITY.
CORONER’S INQUEST,
Onmaru, June 18,
The Coroner’s enquiry into the death of George Swum Burke, who was murdered at Gemmell’s Crossing (near Oamaru) on the evening of 14th April, was held this afternoon, before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., District Coroner. After lengthy evidence had been submitted by the police, the Coroner recorded the following verdict “That George Swan Burke was murdered by Onslow Mayhew, by means of a bullet discharged from a rifle, at Gemmell’s Crossing, on 14th April, 1918.”
