FIRE AT INVERCARGILL.
Invercargill, June 17,
A fire occurred this morning in a two-storey brick block in Tay Street. Starting- in Mrs Challis’ fruit shop, it spread on the top floor to the United Friendly Society’s dispensary, Lethaby’s (umbrella maker) and Ayson’s grocery. Challis’ and Lethaby’s stocks were completely destroyed, and the others seriously damaged. The insurances on (he buildings total £2,050, and on the stocks: Friendly Society’s £l,000, Ayson’s £975, Lethaby’s £3OO, Challis’ £240.
