FOOTBALL.
The first match for the Perreau Cup was played on the racecourse on Saturday last. A strong westerly wind interfered somewhat with the play, keeping the ball to one side of the Held during the greater par) of the game. The game was very evenly contested, and during Jhe first spell there was no score on either side, although Awahou kept their opponents very busy defending their line. After the interval the Crusaders rallied strongly, and for a time had Awahou hard pressed. However, AAvahou managed to get their opponents hack into their own territory, and from a line-out MoEwen broke through with the hall at his feet, and scored. Carter failed to convert from a difficult angle. Awahou 3 —Crusaders 0. After a deal of give-and-take play, Awahou backs took charge of the ball, and soon had the Blacks hard pressed, but were stopped by a knoek-on in the corner. Baker secured the ball from the scrum, and scored in the corner. Carter failed to convert. There was no further score, the game ending: Awahou 6—Crusaders 0.
There will be another Cup match on Saturday next.
