SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The, monthly mooting of the above was held last night. Present:-—, Messrs Ilornhlow (chairman), Rev, J. IT, Bredin, Claris, Kellott, E. M art in, Ingle, W. Signal, Perreau, and the head teacher, Mr L, Pnrrie, The head teacher reported that, he had conferred with the woodwork instructor re erection of bicycle shelter, and the estimated cost of material would he £!). After discussion, the head teacher consented to give the matter further attention and report at next meeting. The Chairman said the Mayor
had informed him that the Council ‘ would hold a conference with the ‘ Committee re swimming baths when the Harbour Board had given a decision as to site. It was reported that a portion of the £SO set aside for concreting tlm front path and assembly had yet to be expended. The front path was completed. It was decided to authorise Mr Signal to get an estimate for concreting the assembly, to be submitted to next meeting. The visitors’ report was received. It referred to several necessary repairs, and a structural defect in the building in connection with the outlet of water from one of the gutters. The outlet for this purpose was too small, with the result that the storm water backed up undeu the roof, and poured down the interior wall of one of the class-rooms, and had damaged books and stationery. If not given immediate attention it would rot the timber. The Chairman said this matter had been referred to the Board on several occasions, but no action had been taken. The Committee was awaiting a reply from the Board on the subject, and it was held over until next meeting. The head teacher was authorised to procure a canvas blind for one of the class-room windows. Repairs to fence on the south side of the school was left in the hands of Mr Martin. The necessity for painting the walls of the assembly hall was discussed, and it was resolved that application be made to the Board for half cost of this work, and that the head teacher get an estimate re cost of same. Correspondence of a formal nature was received from the
Board. The head teacher’s report was adopted. It stated, inter alia, that Empire Day and King’s Birthday was celebrated in a fitting manner, a pleasing feature being the large attendance of parents and ex-scho-
lars. In reference to the roll of
honour, the names of twelve old boys and ex-teachers, who have paid the supreme sacrifice, have been received, and on receipt of in-
formation will place particulars of death in admission register of
school. Referring; to the resignation of Miss Price, the report says; “Prom the short acquaintance I
have of Miss Price, I have formed a very favourable opinion of her as a teacher and a lady, and we shall he indeed sovrv to part with her.” Several repairs and suggestions r« •■leaning were referred to.
The Chairman said he desired to compliment the head teacher upon the function held on Empire Day. It was the most successful gathering of its kind yet held in (ho
school, and the ceremony in connection with (lie unveiling of the roll of
honour was most impressive, and would he long remembered by all who attended.

Mr Permm, who intended to collect subscript ions f r same from cx-
pupils. Mrs Moore conferred with the head teacher re procuring an utrendance hoard for the school. Messrs Rev. Bredin and Kellow were appointed visitors for the month.
The Chairman was authorised to
send a telegram lo the Chairman of the Board, who is shortly to visit the Western Front as one of the New Zealand press delegates, wishing him God-speed and a safe return.
