JUVENILE QUEEN CONTEST.

AVON BY THE FARAIERS’ CAN-

DIDATE,

The voting for the election of a juvenile queen to aid the Red Jersey Fund, concluded yesterday afternoon. The votes recorded •were as follow; — Miss Mavis Coley (Farmers) 12,216 Miss Stella Robinson (Industrial) 4,057 Miss Rita Admore (Tradesmen) 1,207 Miss Muriel Petrie (Flaxmillers) 1,072 After announcing the result, at last 'night’s picture entertainment, the Mayor (Mr Chrystall) congratulated the winner, Miss Mavis Coley, upon her success, and presented her with a gold bangle. He also congratulated Miss Stella Robinson in winning the second prize, which took tire form of a gold brooch. Consolation prizes were also awarded to Miss Rita Admore and Miss Muriel Petrie. On behalf of the parents, ihe Mayor thanked all who had supported their respective candidates. As Chairman, he wished to specially thank Mr “S.M. G.” for the very liberal donation of over £IOO. It was largely due to the kindness of this gentleman that the farmers’ candidate was in her present honoured position. He pointed out that this gift deserved special mention as being the largest strai-ght-out single donation made to the Foxton Patriotic Funds since the inception of the Society. Special thanks were due also to Mr and Mrs P. Robinson, Air and Airs Admore, Mr and Airs Petrie, and the members of the Foxton Girls’ Guild, who had all worked most heartily to make the effort a success. He wished to say that the money for presents was not taken from funds, but donated from a private source. He assured the donors that they, had made a splendid investment in contributing so liberally to a good cause, which had closed with such satisfactory results.

The Mayor says that as a result of the combined efforts the sum of £258 8s 2d Avould be handed over to the Red Jersey' Appeal as Foxton’s contribution.
