CORRESPONDENCE.

* (To the Editor.) Sir,—lf you will kindly allow me space a.;gain, I would like to write a few w ords in answer to the various critics of the scheme for forming a club, which I suggested in your Tuesday’s issue, First of all, Mr Edit or, I would point out that the club I refer to, to be a success, must l>e non-sectarian, and nonpolitical I know, and we all know, that th(; religious life of the community is well catered for by the various churches,-etc., of the town. The nev dy formed Labour party are also doing their best to provide for the poll tical side of our people. I still thil ik, Mr Editor, that there remains af great opening for the looking aft? ;r the social life of .Foxton’s man in the street. Your correspondent , “Labour,” seems to think that I a m looking for a club for the express benefit of myself, whereas my idea; is to benefit the men of tiiQ town generally. My own spare time I might mention, is never a source of won *y, as between business and home life I can always‘find plenty of employment; but, still, as before stated, I would spare time in the interest s of the toAvffi generally to assist i n forming a club. Now, Mr Editor, I will not be drawn into a political 1 controversy as to the advisabilil y of joining the Labour Party o r otherwise, as it is outside the scoj )c v of these letters. “Labour” and myt self seem to differ greatly in the ina: Iter of time being wasted. May I e nquire of him does be never feei th< ) need of any recreation?, Now, SI r, in my opinion, social chat, a: tul the playing of games — in reuse >n —is distinctly not wasting time. M would like to thank you, Mr Edil :or, for your short editorial, endorsu ig my remarks, also “Lodge Member ” for his sensible suggestion, of whic h more may come later, and also a { gentleman who called on rne with an '.other suggestion, of which more in; iv bo heard. In conclusion, Sir, I avt mid like, as is my custom, to sign my’self, not “Subscriber,” not “Labour r,” not even “Constant Reader, 1 ” but just yours, etc., LIONEL E. LARGE.
