MOUTOA NOTES.

Mrs M. J. Mohekey received ad-, vice from the Base Records yesterday that her son, Pte. Bert Mohekey returning from the front, had landed and should reach his home to-day. Constable Codnon arrested an employee of Whitaunui, Ltd., on Monday last, who had failed to parade on May Ist. A valedictory social was tendered to Mr and Mrs J, Morgan and family, of Moutoa, who have resided here for a number of years. A large and representative gathering testified to the esteem and respect in which Mr and Mrs Morgan arc held. The guests were entertained with progressive euchre, and a very enjoyable time was spent. Mr J. Galbmd asked Mr and Mrs Morgan to acecpt on behalf of residents of the district a clock and a china afternoon tea service. The younger members of the family were not forgotten. Miss Phyllis Morgan and Master Herbert Morgan, and little Dorothy Bruce (granddaughter) each receiving a token of remembrance. Mr Morgan, on behalf of himself and family, returned thanks to all present for their kindness, and called on Mr W. S. Carter to speak for him. The ladies’ prize was won by Miss Baird, of Westport, and the gent’s by Mr T. Wallace, of Moutoa. The consolation prizes were won by Miss A. Harrison and Mr Leslie Figgott. Mr and Mrs Morgan are taking up their residence at Levin, and are leaving on Monday next. General regret is felt at their departure. A social evening was held in iho school on Wednesday last, in aid of the “French War Orphans.” On Tuesday next, May 21st, the Mayor of Foxton and representatives of the Foxton Patriotic Society, will address a meeting to he held in the school at 8 pan., to consider the question of assistance to returned soldiers. As this is a matter in which the whole district is interested, a full attendance is requested. Pte. Vincent McDowl, of Moutoa, who left with the 29th Reinforcements, has been unfortunate enough to stop a packet. Wounds in the back and shoulder and a fractured arm is the result. We hope to soon hear of his speedy recovery.
