RESTORING THE DISABLED.
NEW .WAR PENSIONS REGULATIONS. Additional regulations under the War Pensions Act were gazetted on Thursday night. They provide that wheire a partially disabled member of the Forces undergoing medical or curative treatment is an regular employment, and for the purposes lof such treatment has to absent himself from work, he may make application to any Registrar of Pensions, or direct to the Commissioner of Pensions, for an ollowr ance under subsection (2) of section, 7 of the Amendment Act, 1917, to cover any loss of wages or out-of-pocket expanses incurred in connection with the said treatment. Where ai disabled member of the Forces who has applied for and been granted, a pension is, on the advice of a Med Kcal Board, recommended to undergo or continue medical or curative treatment, and such advice is not accepted, and the DirectorGeneral of Medical Services certifies that such treatment is available without ex pense to the member, and that the refusal to accept the same is unreasonable, the Commissioner of Pensioms shall call upon him to show cautse why the treatment offered should not be accepted, and in the event of the refusal being persisted in the War Pensions Board shall detei mine what portion, if any, of the pension payable in respect of the disablement shall be withheld.
If, after treatment -has been accepted, thie disabled member of the Forces in receipt of a pension refuses to c arry out the treatment prescribed, or acts in such a manner as to 1 retard his recovery, the Commissioner of Pensions shall forthwith |stop payment of the pension pending the decision of the War Pensions Board. . Where a, disabled member of the Forces in receipt of a pension is, under authority'from the DirectorGeneral of .Medical Services, an inmate of a laospital or other institution, the maximum amount that shall be paid to him by way of pension either directly or by arrangement with, the authorities of the institution, ishall be 10s a week, and any balance shall be retained and paid to hfm on his discharge from the institution, or paid, at the discretion of the War Pensions Board, to the wife or such other dependent as may be determined.
